Pre-Nuptial Agreements
If you are considering getting married or remarried, now is the time to consult with an attorney about a pre-nuptial agreement. A pre-nuptial agreement can establish how issues such as property, spousal support, family or closely held businesses, attorney fees and many more issues will be determined in the event the marriage ends in divorce.
Pre-nuptial agreements are particularly advisable if you have children from a prior marriage or relationship, own a family business, or if there are significant assets owned at the time of marriage or anticipated to come into your possession during the marriage.
Also available are post-nuptial agreements, which are similar to pre-nuptial agreements, except they are entered into during the marriage, instead of prior to the marriage. Post-nuptial agreements are often overlooked by attorneys and can be a successful alternative to divorce or separate maintenance and assist in preserving the marriage.
