Mediation can occur while a divorce is pending, or even prior to the divorce action being filed, commonly referred to as “early stage mediation”. Many couples prefer to complete their settlement and sign an agreement prior to filing for divorce. Michigan courts have recognized this early stage mediation process, allowing couples file for divorce jointly and using an expedited and streamlined divorce process where a settlement and judgment have already been signed prior filing.
